False suspects – Chapter 2

Tom Harrison was sitting at his cluttered desk in his room. He was currently doing his math homework, keeping his feet on the table and writing down the answers to the algebraic expressions.

Though he was only 14, he was truly a mastermind in solving crimes and had gone on many missions since the age of 13. His new undercover job, along with his sister, Rachel, was as a detective in the police force, but they still had to do all the things a perfectly normal 15-year-old does.

He shook his mousey brown hair, sipping on a cup of lukewarm coffee as brown as his eyes, the scent of which filled the air around him.

The desk lamp cast a soft yellow glow over the room, illuminating the various items on his desk – a stack of case files, a half-eaten sandwich, a packet of open chips, his maths books, and a computer. Suddenly, the door slammed open, hitting the wall and dropping a picture out of its frame. His eyebrow raised in concern. “Tom! Tom! You must see this!” Rachel told slamming the newspaper on his table.

“You must stop slamming the door open. Look what happened,” Tom said grinning at his sister’s face and pointing at the picture fallen on the floor.

“Yeah, okay,” She said hurriedly, “But look at this!

Tom looked at the paper she thrust at his face, and his happy expression immediately turned serious. “Murder at Castel Manor” the headlines screamed.

“What? But how. Mrs. Castel keeps it so protected. How did he get in?” He questioned.

“I don’t know either, but I do have a few suspects written down. I went through all the files about Mrs. Castel’s history and I found 3 people who have had some problematic backstories,” Rachel said giving him 3 files with 3 names plastered in the front.

“Mrs. Cecily Angel, Mrs. Elise Beinson, and Mr. Salazaar Enclaw,” Tom read.

“Are you sure, Rachel? But why would they kill her. Mrs. Castel is very snobbish and rude but the Castel Manor is guarded very well indeed” He asked.

“Mrs. Cecily Angel wanted to borrow some money from Mrs. Castel to pay off a rich banker but she did not give Mrs. Angel any. Therefore, she had to live on the streets and she was shunned by many. Mrs. Elise Benison was Mrs. Castel’s sister. She wanted to marry a poor clergyman but her sister did not allow her to do so. She instead made the clergyman fall in love with someone else for money and then get married to that person leaving Mrs. Elise Benison heartbroken and sad,” Rachel explained.

“What about Mr. Troy Enclaw?” Tom questioned.

“Mrs. Castel married Mr. Enclaw, and she signed all her money to him if she died. He was her beneficiary. I think it is him. Mrs, Castel has a fortune in her bank. He would easily gain it if she was killed,” Rachel clarified.

“You do have a point, but I think we better go and see Castel Manor either way,” Tom said.
